Description:
This 1997 image was one of two (see PHIL# 9212) depicting a close-up view of a brass finished, levered door handle being opened by an opened hand's fingertips, and a clenched hand as shown in PHIL# 9212. These photographs showed two of the ways lever handles can be useful, without requiring strong hand gripping, or the ability to grasp tightly, as would be the case with a round knob, or when hands are full of packages. By designing this simple door handle to accommodate those with mobility impairments, the overall design became even more accommodating to all, which is really the challenge, and the goal of a universally designed facility.
