In this 1993 image (and see PHIL# 9085), a woman seated in her wheelchair was about to enter a publicly-accessible swimming pool by using a motorized lift. The lift, allowed her to be seated in a comfortable position, then would rotate so that she'd be extended out over the water, and slowly lowered at will. The inclusion of such a device broadened the scope of its demographic usability, thereby, extending the accessibility to this facility to a wider range of participants. Designing recreation sites with the mobility-challenged in mind, makes for an overall more user-friendly environment for all, and is quite often, made even more efficient from a utilitarian standpoint.
