This image depicted a side-view of a typical iron, which was equipped with an automatic shutoff feature. This safety device was designed to prevent the scorching of an ironing board, or even avoid a possible house fire, which could result from someone inadvertently leaving the appliance on, and the heating element in contact with the ironing board. This added feature would not only act to make the users activity a safer experience, but would also act to save on energy usage, as well as mere peace of mind.
