Description:
This historic 1947 image was provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted an industrial worker who was spraying a mist of chrome paint in a ventilated paint spray booth. The booth had been equipped with a negatively pressurized environment, whereupon, an air current was created that sucked the suspended chrome paint mist into a trough containing running water, which carried the excess paint spray out of the booth. This photograph was published in both the February, 1947, edition of the 'Industrial Bulletin, New York', pg. 19, and the April, 1951, edition of the 'Industrial Health Monthly' (formerly the 'IH Newsletter'). Even though the booth was ventilated, the worker should have been wearing a filtered breathing mask, and to protect against spatter contamination, heavy-duty gloves, and even a pair of goggles.
