Thought to be from the 1970s, this historic image was provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The photograph depicted the hands of an inductrial worker who was in the process of making sand molds. It appeared that the worker was about to rinse of his hands and arms in a nearby sink. Note the accumulations of sand in the work zone. Hopefully, this person was wearing protective devices such as a filtered breathing mask, and if necessary, eyewear to protect his eyes from flying particulates.In gaining a better understanding of workplace hazards, through hands-on and on-site information acquisition, protocol-formulating bodies such as NIOSH, are better able to create a safer workplace through substantiation of appropriate safety regulations.
