Description:
Yet another data-collecting tool was the 'Case and Death Register', which contained the names of those individuals who'd been diagnosed with a case of smallpox, and did not survive its onslaught. There are two clinical forms of smallpox, Variola major and Variola minor. Variola major is the severe and most common form of smallpox, with a more extensive rash and higher fever.Epidemiologic data collection was integral to successfully conquoring this dreaded viral infection. Tools such as the Containment Book, the Cross-Registry, and the book pictured here, the Case and Death Register, along with accompanying geographic maps of communities and regions, were all used by the members of the smallpox eradication team to trace, track, and monitor the progress of their diligent efforts.
