Description:
These two local Bangladesh women were working as community smallpox eradication team volunteers, as they marched from house to house in search of any smallpox cases, and the family members, or neighbors who were determined to be in close proximity to such cases.Local residents who became resident vaccinators, played a profound role in achieving a successful outcome to the eradication program. Once located, the names of those residents who were ill, or had been in close proximity to those who had smallpox, i.e., within one half mile, were added to the smallpox eradication Containment Book. The book kept track of those with disease, and those who'd been vaccinated, and allowed team members to closely follow these 'patients' in order to see that the vaccination was successful, or the smallpox patient was improving as desired.
