This photograph depicts the colonial morphology displayed by Gram-negative Yersinia pestis bacteria, which was grown on a medium of chocolate agar, for a 72 hour time period, at a temperature of 37�C. Yersinia pestis is pathogenic towards humans, and is responsible for causing the disease known as plague. See also PHIL 12468 for the appearance of Y. pestis colonies grown on the same medium, but for both a lesser time period (48hr), and at a lesser temperature (25�C); PHIL 12469 and 12470, for Y. pestis colonies grown on the same medium, and for the same time period, but at a lesser temperature (25�C); PHIL 12473 displaying growth on the same medium, but at a lesser temperature (25�C), and for only one-third time period (24hr).
