This photograph depicts the colonial morphology displayed by Gram-negative Brucella melitensis bacteria, which was grown on a medium of sheep's blood agar (SBA), for a 72 hour time period, at a temperature of 37�C. See also, PHIL 12398 for a view of this bacterial specie, colonized on modified Thayer-Martin agar, for the same amount of time and temperature; PHIL 12400, for B. melitensis bacteria grown also, on SBA at the same temperature, but for a lesser time period (48hr); PHIL 12452, for B. melitensis bacteria grown on SBA at the same temperature, but for one-third the time period (24hr). Brucella spp. bacteria are responsible for causing the disease known as brucellosis.
