Description:
This historic image, provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted an Ansco (Anthony & Scovill) Photo Products, Inc., New York, photochemical technician who was wearing heavy-duty gloves while pouring an unidentified powder into a mechanical mixing vat to prepare photochemicals. Though the technician was partially protected, he was not wearing any eyewear, facial guard, or filtered inhalation device, which nowadays would be considered normal required protocol. This image was published in the July, 1948, edition of the 'Industrial Bulletin NY', p. 38, and the April, 1951, edition of the 'Industrial Health Monthly/Industrial Hygiene Newsletter'.In gaining a better understanding of workplace hazards, through hands-on and on-site information acquisition, protocol-formulating bodies such as NIOSH, are better able to create a safer workplace through substantiation of appropriate safety regulations
