Description:
This historical photograph, provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted an overhead Kirk & Blum Co. exhaust ventilation hood, in the 'Off' position, inside the Cincinnati, OH, William Powell Valve Co. factory. Note the pressurized gasses being expelled from the chamber beneath the hood, which would have normally been ingested by the exhaust system, had the hood been turned 'On'. It was not known from this image whether or not these gasses were toxic, or noxious. See PHIL #9642 for another view of this scenario, however, in that view, the vent is ingesting the expelled fumes.
