This 2000 photograph depicted Surveillance Medical Officer, Dr. Bhatti, as he was performing a physical follow-up exam to a young Indian girl who had been suspected of suffering from a case of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP); however, she was eventually diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, not polio.The image was provided by Chris Zahniser, B.S.N., R.N., M.P.H., a STOP Transmission of Polio (STOP) immunization initiative team member and photographer. Ms. Zahniser was at the time assigned to the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, and spent three months working in the Districts of Gorakhpur and Deoria.
