Ken McDermond. . Ken McDermond is the Coordinator for the South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative. Ken served in the U.S. Navy from 1976-1980. He was stationed at some great duty stations including Corpus Christi, TX, and Barbers Pt. HI. . . Working as an aircrewmen, he was fortunate to venture to a variety of locations in the Pacific, including Guam, Philippines, Japan, Okinawa, Tahiti, Kwajalein, and Midway. . . During the last two years of his enlistment, Ken was an airborne communicator in a P-3 Orion aircraft squadron. In addition to supporting the P-3s main tactical mission of monitoring positions of Soviet submarines, Ken's squadron conducted search and rescue missions. A particular focus of these missions was in Southeast Asia, post Vietnam conflict, when refugees were fleeing via ramshackle boats. Ken completed his enlistment as a Petty Officer second class.
