Title:
Luis Zaragoza
Description:
Luis Zaragoza, an Office Assistant with Chicago the Ecological Services Office, was deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, from September 2003 to October 2004 at the age of 18 with the U.S. Army in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Zaragoza reminds us that “not all veterans fought and many never deployed, but all sacrificed something of themselves in order to serve their country. … All who have served have hit the pause button on their lives – putting aside personal goals and aspirations, even if for a short time, so that others may live in relative peace and comfort.” He adds that “veterans, especially those who have served in the past 10 years are highly motivated, capable of digesting complex systems and information, motivated individuals looking for a chance to keep serving their country.” He got that chance with the Fish and Wildlife Service, which gave him the ability to finish my Masters of Public Administration degree. He says he hopes “to use those skills with the Service.“
