Description:

Pallid sturgeon spawning wasn't over quite yet! Early July we were at the Miles City State Fish Hatchery in Montana to spawn some incredible fish. These wild pallid sturgeon were estimated to be over 50 years old and about 40 lbs. They were captured (and eventually will be re-released) in different parts of the Missouri and Yellowstone River. We came home with about 15,000 eggs with the rest heading to Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery. The picture on the left shows the eggs rolling in a hatching jar. The top right picture shows how we fertilize the eggs, taken minutes after harvesting them from the fish. The bottom right picture shows how we ship the eggs, with lots of tape, Styrofoam and ice.
