U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Eric Schwartz meets with Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith at the Laos Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss Lao Hmong issues Laos in June 2010. Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) Eric Schwartz visited Thailand and Laos in June to focus on the situation of Burmese ethnic minorities and Lao Hmong asylum seekers. Through PRM, the United States government provides financial assistance to the many organizations that are assisting these refugee populations in Thailand and Laos. Assistant Secretary Schwartz met with government officials and refugees themselves to see first-hand the challenges they face. [State Department photo/ Public Domain]
