Title:
Snow Goose Telemetry
Description:
Many of the breeding Wrangel Island (located in northern Russia) snow geese winter in Washington State. During their fall/spring migrations they have been known to stop on Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD). In the winter 2013 the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife attached transmitters to a handful of the wintering snow geese to monitor movements, stop over sites, etc. It is known that the birds use the YKD as a stop-over site but exact locations of use and size of the the flocks were unknown. In May of 2013 we flew a survey to document number of snow geese on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta and where they were found. USFWS Yukon Delta NWR Photo Credit: Kyle Spragens Public domain
