Fresh fruits and vegetables on the Fresh Moves Mobile Market Bus, a renovated Chicago Transit Authority Bus, the bus delivers fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables to the Austin and North Lawndale neighborhoods. The neighborhoods have limited access to fresh produce. During a press event in Chicago, Illinois on Friday June 8, 2012 Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack highlighted the Obama administration efforts to increase access to healthy food in communities. Secretary Vilsack also commended Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuelâs commitment to healthy food access and announced United States Department of Agriculture support for the expansion of mobile markets in Chicago, as well as a research project to assess the impact of mobile markets as a strategy to increase healthy food access in rural and urban communities.
