Powell Elementary students designed their own âPeopleâs Gardenâ with Green, teachers, parents, United States Department of Agriculture Landscape Architects and United States Department of Agriculture, The Peopleâs Garden employees and volunteers. In early March the students will reveal the design of their garden and at the end of the month they will build the garden. The Washington Capitals adopted Powell Elementary as part of the teamâs community outreach efforts. Marques mentioned, âThe benefits provided by Peopleâs Gardens in this and hundreds of other communities goes far beyond the food that is produced, the simple act of planting a garden can make real and lasting change in our communities, especially those in greatest need. The aim of the Peopleâs Garden initiative is to grow healthy food, people and communities throughout the country.â USDA Photo by Bob Nichols.
