Title:

Description:
Aneesh Chopra, White House Chief Technology Officer, Julie Goon, General Electric, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack present First Prize to David Villatoro, North Hills, California and a team of developers from the University of Southern California of the game 'Trainer,' of The Apps for Healthy Kids competition at the White House, in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, September 29, 2010. This team also won the GE Healthymagination Student Awards. The Apps for Healthy Kids competition is part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move campaign to end childhood obesity within a generation. The competition challenges software developers, game designers, students and other innovators to develop fun and engaging software tools and games to urge children, especially “tweens” (children ages 9-12) – directly or through their parents – to eat better and be more physically active. Trainer gives players the responsibility of caring for creatures who all have dietary and fitness needs. Unlike any other title currently on the market, the player actually trains with creatures. When one of the creature exercises, so does the Player! Both benefit from this shared activity. USDA Photo 10di1506-133 by Bob Nichols.
