Aneesh Chopra, White House Chief Technology Officer, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack present Second Prize to John Ferrara, Eagleville, Pennsylvania, Team Leader of the team that developed the game 'Fitter Critters,' of The Apps for Healthy Kids competition at the White House, in Washington, DC, Wednesday, September 29, 2010. The Apps for Healthy Kids competition is part of First Lady Michelle Obamaâs Letâs Move campaign to end childhood obesity within a generation. The competition challenges software developers, game designers, students and other innovators to develop fun and engaging software tools and games to urge children, especially âtweensâ (children ages 9-12) â directly or through their parents â to eat better and be more physically active. In 'Fitter Critters,' children are given the responsibility to make nutritional choices for a virtual pet. Meters showing daily nutritional requirements and limits fill as the player gives the critter food. Critters who are consistently served more nutritious diets will lead healthier and more prosperous lives. USDA Photo 10di1506-113 by Bob Nichols.
