Miss Cherokee 2010-2011 Brooke Hudson and officers of the Cherokee nation met with U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon, Under Secretary for Rural Development Dallas Tonsager, Agriculture Chief of Staff Krysta Harden; Senior Advisor to Agriculture Secretary with the USDA Office of Tribal Relations Janie Hipp (left) and Agriculture Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Janey Thornton in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. During the meeting Miss Hudson presented Secretary Vilsack with a book called the 'Trails of Tears,' the relocation that included the movement of the Cherokee Nation in 1938 from the southeastern United States to Oklahoma. Hudson had completed a cycling journey along the same route. The trip took her more then 20 days to complete. She told of how the experience was both physically and emotionally demanding.
