Veterinary technician Rebecca Blevins (left) uses laser light therapy on Molson the cat as Dr. Julie Holland (right) to have calcification of the spine on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Littlestown Veterinary Hospital in Littlestown, PA. Through the year it is expected that 30-40% of the electricity to run the diagnostic equipment, lights, laser, computers, any thing electrical will be generated from the 105 solar panels that were installed on the roof in mid September 2010. The hospital, received a grant from the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to have solar panels installed to help reduce their carbon footprint and to have cost effective electric power for the hospital. REAP provides grants for energy audits and renewable energy development assistance. The program also provides funds to agricultural producers and rural small business to purchase and install renewable energy systems and make energy efficiency improvements.
