'Then' Documerica Photo: June, 1973 Androscoggin River Falls and Power Plant at Rumford by Charles Steinhacker. Charles Steinhacker was one of nearly one hundred photographers hired for DOCUMERICA. His assignment took him to Maine in June 1973, where he photographed the Androscoggin from it's inland headwaters to the river's mouth on the coast of Maine. His photo set includes photographs of recreational fishing to evidence of water pollution from textile and paper mills. 'Now' photo: February, 2012 photograph by Victoria Hampshire. Victoria has graciously taken on the challenge to re-take scenes in her travels and we thank her family's involvement in this modern recreation of her father's legacy. Gifford Hampshire served as not only as the director of Documerica, but was the energy and life behind the project's vision. Join in at
