Description:
ANTIOCH, Calif. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District structural design section chief Roger Zemba answers interview questions from students with the Academy of Engineering and Design for a Greener Environment (EDGE) at Antioch High School here Jan. 31. Zemba and district senior electrical engineer John Parrish were invited to share stories of their educational and vocational backgrounds and explain the Corps’ various missions to more than 120 freshmen enrolled in the school’s new four-year academy, which incorporates a curriculum linking science and math education to engineering careers. Zemba emphasized the value and importance of education to the students and showed gratitude to the military for his own education opportunities. “I have my Army experience to thank for my position today,” said Zemba, a Vietnam veteran. “If it weren’t for my military service, I would probably not have gone to college.”
