SHOWN IS A CONTACT-HANDLED TRANSURANIC WASTE SHIPMENT THAT IS LOADED FOR DEPARTURE FROM THE GENERAL ELECTRIC VALLECITOS NUCLEAR CENTER (GEVNC) IN IDAHO. This is part of a transuranic waste (TRU) small quantity site consolidation effort of transuranic waste at Idaho. Once it arrives at Idaho the waste, it will be characterized and eventually shipped to Waste Isolation Pilot Project (WIPP). The policemen in the picture are escorting the shipment. California and Nevada requested an escort for the TRU shipment. There was only content-handled transuranic waste shipment to Idaho from GEVNC but there will be others from DOE sites. GEVNC is a commercial facility that did some research for AEC/ERDA in their hot cell. For more information or additional images, please contact 202-586-5251
