Vertical Reach Sluicer (VRS) Testing

Description:

Project Engineer Dave Smet uses a remote control to operate the new Vertical Reach Sluicer (VRS) that was recently tested at the Cold Test Facility north of Richland. The VRS is designed to help remove waste from tanks in AX Farm which have air lift circulators inside. The circulators would be an obstruction to conventional sluicers but the new VRS can operate below the circulators and move waste to a central pump so it can be removed. The new sluicers, produced by HiLine Engineering and Fabrication Services of Richland, are designed to be deployed into an AX tank. Retrieval operations in the first AX tank to be retrieved are scheduled to begin in fiscal year 2016.
