AT OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LABORATORY , AS THE SUN RISES OVER EASTERN EUROPE, THE INSTANTANEOUS NET ECOSYSTEM EXCHANGE OF CARBON DIOXIDE IS SHOWN IN THE EASTERN HEMISPHERE. At Oak Ridge National Laboratory, zinc oxide is a material with applications in a whole range of areas- including electronics, optics, nuclear science and medicine. Here, chemical reactions produced by high temperature treatment in zinc metal vapor have produced morphological changes on the surface of a zinc oxide single crystal. Optical interference contrast microscopy reveals the zinc oxide surface topology in the form of color variations.
