At the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM, this PV carport stands ready to impress more than 400,000 visitors each year. The system delivers about 23 megawatt hours of clean electricity annually to the local utility grid (Public Service Company of New Mexico), making it the largest commercial PV system in New Mexico. Diversified Systems Manufacturing, a Native American owned and operated PV development company, was the contractor. The New Mexico Department of Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources funded the project. Engineers from Sandia National Laboratories were responsible for the project's electrical design review. The project is the brainchild of Dave Melton, president of DSM and a tribal member of the Laguna Pueblo. It is also part of the Million Solar Roofs initiative, which seeks to place solar energy systems on one million roofs in the United States by 2010. | Photo courtesy of Sandia National Laboratories.
