A child receiving a polio vaccine
This 2000 photograph, provided by Chris Zahniser, B.S.N., R.N., M.P.H., a STOP Transmission of Polio (STOP) immunization initiative team member and photographer, depicted a clinic worker as she was administering an oral polio vaccine dosage to a child during one of India's National Immunization Days (NID).

Following each NID, health workers would visit each home in a given District, in order to verify that all children under 5 years of age had received the polio vaccine. Chris was assigned to the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, and spent three months working in the Districts of Gorakhpur and Deoria.
